Paranoid Android is still alive. We haven’t heard anything new about it since August. It was when the OREO build was made ready for Sony Xperia phones. There have been several talks about Paranoid Android because with funding gone, the team behind it started asking for money from potential users. We can say it is back with a vengeance as Android 9 Pie ROMs are available for some of the latest phones like the Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 6, Mi 5, Mi Mix 2S, and the Xiaomi POCO F1 gaming phone.
The custom ROM is silently being updated from Oreo to Pie for the Xiaomi phones we listed earlier, as well as, beta version for other Android phones like the Moto G5 Plus, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6, and the Essential Phone. It may even work with the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.
The latest Paranoid Android works best with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-powered phones already on Android Pie. You can try the ROM if you know how to load the file on your phone and if the device doesn’t use A/B partition system.
Note that this custom ROM will only work with those phones running on the Qualcomm chipset because of the Qualcomm CAF GSI. Qualcomm is the only one that has provided and allowed some part of their code to be public and customizable enough for development purposes.
Huawei and Honor phones may soon follow since the Paranoid Android devs reported they are already trying to talk with the OpenKirin team. Check out the available ROM here.
