We were not really convinced the first time that leaks came out of OPPO’s gorgeous bezel-less wonder in the R7 that it was really without bezel. We were already thinking that it might be structurally impossible to do that. OPPO’s patent application for a refraction-type tech already told us as much. But here’s more fuel to that fire, saying that OPPO is using a curved glass display approach to achieve the “bezel-less” look.
The still unreleased OPPO R7’s claim to fame is a 5.5-inch display that shows almost no bezels at all – in fact, most have been tempted to use the term “bezel-less” to the leaks that have come out. And that’s fair, we think. When the user of this phone looks directly at this gorgeous beast (whatever the trick is, you can’t deny that this is still darned beautiful), they will see little to zero bezel at all.
But there is a trick to it – that is to say, there is still some bezel in the R7. OPPO has just gone to great lengths – with curved glass and refraction technology – to hide whatever bezel there is. The trick is that curved glass, much like what is used by the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, that is attached just over the display refracts light just the right way to mask what bezel there is on the left and right side. We’ve attached a video below and you can check right near the end, what we’re talking about.
But it bears saying that OPPO should be at least commended for trying this. They’re not the first one to try either, but you can’t say that they have not come up with a gorgeous gadget – at least from what we’ve seen so far. All that said, would you buy the OPPO R7?
