The Chinese manufacturers have been busy enough this January, with Xiaomi launching its budget phone the RedMi 2 last week and reportedly lining up a January 15 launch of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2. OPPO – legal disputes aside – looks set to be busy on January 14 as well, if the teasers be true, as they launch their new OPPO R1C 4G smart phone.

Let’s get to the meat of things then. The OPPO R1C will reportedly sport a 5-inch HD (720p) display powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor (big.LITTLE architecture, quad 1.7Ghz and quad 1.0Ghz), and supported by 2GB of RAM. Off the bat, this looks to be a contender in the mid-rage to high-end market, as the specs look robust enough to gain second or third looks.

The phone will have 16GB internal storage, expandable by 128GB via microSD. The phone will have a 13MP/5MP camera combo. We still do not know if the phone will be running Android KitKat or Lollipop out of the box. We assume that the phone will have LTE connectivity. But aside from the robust build, the photos leaked on the internet show a very classy if understated design that oozes quality rather than fancy stuff.

2014 was a big year for OPPO, with the launches of the OPPO N3 and R5. Would the R1C continue on the momentum the company has generated from a very profitable 2014? We’re going to be seeing this phone soon, so watch out.
