Exactly three days ago, OnePlus made a quick announcement on Facebook that potential buyers have three days to claim their OnePlus 2 invite. Instead of just the original 24 hours, OnePlus was generous enough to extend the hours. We have no idea how many invitations were requested already but with the extension we’re guessing two things: demand for the phone is high or just the opposite. Either way, OnePlus ought to extend the claiming period of the official invites.
It seems that more people really want the phone based on the comments on the Facebook announcement. We have no way of knowing how many have already signed up but OnePlus’ confidence is enough to tell us that the company is selling OnePlus 2‘s. This invitation-only scheme makes the phone somewhat exclusive but in the case of the first OnePlus One phone, the company eventually went ahead to offer it without any invite. One reason was probably because the OnePlus 2 was being prepped.
The OnePlus team said that invitations help them manage the challenges especially in a community that’s rapidly growing. It’s more of like a pre-order but you will have to wait for an official invite that will allow you to claim an account. This invitation may be used within 24 hours.
Once you have the invite with you, you are now guaranteed that you can buy a OnePlus 2 within the next three weeks. The company said more invites will be available. Invites for OnePlus 2 can also be obtained from friends who already received theirs.
