OnePlus has dropped the latest bit of information on the One smartphone. This time around they are talking about the camera — offering specifics in terms of what users can expect, and also touching on why they choose to go the route they did. The OnePlus One will make use of the Exmor IMX214.

This is a 13 megapixel CMOS sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. OnePlus mentioned how they are not looking to compete with DSLRs, but instead simply want to provide “a portable product that performs well in real-life conditions (without an ugly protruding camera).” As for the setup they choose, they mentioned how it “would take beautiful pictures in any situation.”

A bit of a bold claim, however there is more to the camera setup. In this case they touched on how low apertures come with a downside in that “photos may become distorted on the edges.” To address that OnePlus opted for a 6th lens, whereas other smartphones often have a 5 lens setup.

OnePlus mentioned they choose to add the 6th lens to “properly correct for low aperture.”

“Our unique 6 lens optics will avoid any low aperture distortion while also enhancing the image quality and colors.”

Otherwise, remaining details include Image Stabilization Plus (IS+) to help reduce noise and shakiness as well as the ability to shoot 4K video, and also slow-motion video in 720p at 120 frames-per-second. There wasn’t much in the way of front-camera camera specifics, however it was said it will be 5 megapixel.

  1. I think I’m finally sold on this thing. Same processor as my Nexus, bigger screen, better battery, better camera, and I don’t have to waste time loading CM on it. I hope it comes out soon.

    • Its not the same processor (afaik). Its the 801, nexus has the 800 i believe. Although they are close in numbering sequence, the 801 is substantially different than the 800, but i believe i MAY be sold. Still gotta see how big this thing is gonna be. My OG one, was already as big as the s4 but had a smaller screen, now, they are making the screen bigger (ugh), giving us on screen buttons (yay?) but still leaving a .25″ of 100% useless space (wtf). the original one was already difficult to one hand, and this looks to be about impossible.
