We don’t know how YouTuber Marques Brownlee managed to get a OnePlus 2 but he shared some sample photos taken using the yet-to-be-announced smartphone from OnePlus. (Well, of course, OnePlus sent him a unit). He even published an initial video review on YouTube and showcased the phone although it wasn’t clearly shown. You’ll only see the blurred phone and several images being compared. Brownlee said he was only tasked to review the phone. He’s not promoting it in any way but was just testing this new camera.

Marques Brownlee noted how OnePlus has been hyping up the OnePlus 2 but have not revealed what kind of camera it will have. By testing the phone, we’ll at least know what the camera can do and if it can rival the latest Samsung flagship phones, the upcoming Galaxy Note 5, or the next-gen iPhone from Apple.

The reviewer only revealed the photos where taken by a 13 megapixel camera with f/2.0 lens. Most of the photos taken (see gallery below) were taken in one shot in auto mode. Nothing is extra ordinary but images are sharp thanks to plenty of light, contrast is on point, colors are accurate, and dynamic range is healthy. There are areas of total white and total black but exposure is well-balanced.

There’s automatic mode and there’s also the clear shot, HDR, and beauty mode. The HDR mode brings up the shadow and darker areas. There’s also the panaroma mode while the beauty mode is great for selfies and portraits. Most photos were at f/2.0–not as fast as the Galaxy S6 but the results are good enough.

The OnePlus 2 also shoots in 4K video so that’s another clue right there. The video shows a good depth of field which is pretty impressive for a phone camera.
