We are nearing MWC 2015 so naturally rumors and activities are starting to heat up. To add fodder to the fire, NVIDIA has just sent out an invitation for an event right at the start of the conference. As expected, the teaser is low on detail but high on hype, so it falls to us to speculate a bit on what NVIDIA might have in store next month. But considering this will be a mobile tech event, we can be pretty sure it will revolve around the intersection of mobile devices and gaming.

NVIDIA announced the new Tegra X1 early this year but it didn’t reveal any new device to carry it other than a development board. So the chances are high that we will be seeing a new device powered by the super powerful chip. Indeed, the rumors point out that a new version of the SHIELD Tablet is coming. Those same rumors, however, claim that it won’t launch this March. It might be the case that NVIDIA will simply reveal the existence of the device and schedule a release date later.

NVIDIA also mentions that it will reveal something that is five years in the making. If we look back to 2010, NVIDIA kicked off that year by announcing the new Tegra 2 chip that would be used for tablets. This reinforces the theory that NVIDIA does indeed have a tablet ready for MWC this year.

It will be interesting to see what the chip makers thinks the “future of gaming” will be or where it plans to push mobile gaming to. Perhaps it is banking on that future to revolve around game streaming and rentals. And indeed, it’s NVIDIA GRID hasn’t taken off fully yet. That said, NVIDIA has many interests that intersect with the mobile industry, including even in-vehicle infotainment systems. We’ll have to see if there will be more breadcrumbs along the way to give us a more solid idea of what NVIDIA is plotting for MWC 2015. If you are as curious as we are, don’t forget to tune in on March 3 for NVIDIA’s special event.
