This isn’t a rumor but Nokia has recently made an important acquisition. It just bought Withings, a startup focused on digital health tracking. It’s no stranger to us as we’ve seen it partner with the likes of Google with the Fit Developer Challenge. We’ve also seen a few products including the Atcivate,Activate Pop, and Activate Steel. The last one we know, Withings Go, was launched at the CES 2016 back in January.
Nokia isn’t exactly in good shape but to survive, it needs to think of different ways on how to bring in money. We’re still hoping it will work on Android devices if not, more Windows Phone-powered Nokia smartphones or tablets. We didn’t see this one coming but Nokia’s plan to buy Withings is now final and official. The idea is for the company to get into the digital health bandwagon. The latter is more known for its digital health services and products. It’s a pioneer in health revolution and this deal will bring Withings as an important part of Nokia Technologies.
Nokia’s President and CEO Rajeev Suri shared this statement:
“We have said consistently that digital health was an area of strategic interest to Nokia, and we are now taking concrete action to tap the opportunity in this large and important market. With this acquisition, Nokia is strengthening its position in the Internet of Things in a way that leverages the power of our trusted brand, fits with our company purpose of expanding the human possibilities of the connected world, and puts us at the heart of a very large addressable market where we can make a meaningful difference in peoples’ lives.”
There is a trend to get healthy in this digital world. Actually, it shouldn’t just be a trend. Health must be a priority and should not be taken for granted. With Nokia and Withings working together, we can expect revolutionary products or services that will usher more mobile users to live healthier lives. Combining the technology of Nokia and Withings’ expertise in health tracking, digital health can be tracked and achieved easily with more convenience. Soon, you will run out of excuses why you don’t want to work out.
