People are excited about Xiaomi’s entry into the American market. Some products from the Chinese OEM are already available but the brand has yet to make a big launch. One of the first mainstream products to be introduced is the Mi Box. It’s a new Android set-top box that was unveiled at the Google I/O conference a few months ago.
We had no idea when the Mi Box will become available commercially in the US but now we’ve got news the item will be out in early Q4 2016 according to Xiaomi. It’s not final yet but that “early” could mean October since it is in the earliest in the fourth quarter. This Mi Box could be priced below $100 is affordable good enough for a set-top box.
The Mi Box is like any other set-top box. Think Apple TV, EXOON, Pulse PRO, and IN Media. It features a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, HDMI 2.0a compatibility, Mali 450 GPU, 3GB RAM, and 8GB of built-in storage. When it comes to audio, the Mi Box takes advantage of DTS Surround Sound and Dolby Digital Plus.
Xiaomi’s Mi Box also comes with a controller so you can play Android games on your TV. It’s definitely bigger than a streaming stick or dongle but smaller than other similar set-top boxes or the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV console.
