We haven’t heard much out of Verizon or Motorola regarding this lately but from what we are reading it looks like the update might be starting soon, if not already underway for select Xoom owners. In case you forgot, when the Xoom originally shipped we were promised a 4G LTE hardware upgrade but I dont recall much information from either company following the launch but now it looks like an email either went out early, or the upgrade has started.
According to our friends over at Phandroid it seems that one of their readers received an email from Motorola regarding the 4G LTE upgrade and the email even mentions they sent shipping materials for him to send his Xoom in for the upgrade. We aren’t sure if this is a mistake or not but I’m sure more details will emerge shortly. Here is the email below.
Thank you for submitting your Motorola Xoom for the 4G LTE upgrade. You should have recently received a package in the mail with instructions and materials for returning your device for the upgrade.
Our records indicate that we have not yet received your Motorola Xoom. If you are still interested in upgrading your Motorola Xoom, this is a friendly reminder to please follow the instructions provided in your upgrade package and ship your device back for the upgrade.
If you have already shipped your device back to us, please contact us at 1-800-734-5870 and one of our support specialists will assist you with tracking and completing your order.
It seems the tipster that got this email has not received any of the materials to ship his Xoom in for the upgrade so that is part of the confusion here, maybe this email was sent out premature. I’m tempted to call the number in the email and see what I get but it is probably just a standard customer support line. We will be looking into this in the coming days and will be sure to update you with any news.
