Xiaomi is pretty proud of MIUI 8, their proprietary skin based Android. They even put out an event in India to launch the software. We talked about MIUI 8 at length here, but basically what came out after the launch was a beta version. Now it seems that the company is ready to launch a stable version for Xiaomi device users.
Xiaomi has finally confirmed the final release date of MIUI 8 Global stable ROM. An official post on MIUI forums says that MIUI 8 will be rolling out to devices on August 23. It will be a staggered rollout, which means that the ROM will not be available for all supported devices right away. That said, the supported device list is long, and all these will get MIUI 8 at some point – the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S/Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3 (Qualcomm version), Redmi Note 3 (Special Edition model), Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime, Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi 5, Mi Note, and the Mi Max (32GB model).
But of all these, the first devices to get it will be the Redmi 1S, M i2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 3G and Redmi Note 4G, starting on August 23. All the other phones will have to wait a bit longer, as Xiaomi has promised that MIUI 8 will get to all these devices in the near future.
The MIUI 8 China version Stable ROM will also start rolling out on the same date as the global version. If you’re one of the lucky few who will be getting the update when it rolls out, you will be notified for an over-the-air (OTA) update for your handset. Alternatively, you can just tap on the Updater app on your Xiaomi phone to manually check if update is ready for your phone.
