When it comes to cheap Android-based devices, there’s a few to choose from. But, when you start looking at the mid-$100 price range, you have to start wondering if the money is really worth spending, even if it isn’t a lot. When it comes to the Micromax Andro 60, which will be the cheapest Android-based handset to launch in India when it does in the near future, potential owners will have to wonder if having a resistive touchscreen is worth the low cost.

While the higher-end Android devices, as well as plenty of the cheap variations out there, feature a capacitive touchscreen display, the Andro 60 replaces that with a resistive version. You’ll also find the Swype alternate keyboard pre-loaded onto the device. Other features include a 3.5mm audio jack, integrated GPS, a 3.2MP camera on the back with autofocus, and a 600MHz processor under the hood.

The display measures in at 2.8-inches, and it’s a QVGA. You also get Stereo Bluetooth, and Android 2.1. As far as pricing goes, that’s said to be at about 6,999 INR, or about $157. You will also get a 2GB microSD card in the box, too.

  6. Wow, it’s really good launch by Micromax. Will give a try to it. I was thinking over HTC and Moto, but this is good option to try. Lookwise it’s ok.Look at the price…unbeatable. Anyway it will have all the features of Android 2.1 whatever phone you buy

  9. The A60 has a 2.8-inch resistive touch screen with 320×240 pixel resolution. The Samsung Galaxy 5 (I5503) has similar specs, but has responsive capacitive touch screen. I would suggest that one go in for this over the A60. However the I5503 is not a dual SIM phone.

    Call clarity is good. I use it quite a bit for browsing (via EDGE/GPRS) using the pre-installed browser and Opera Mini 5.1 (which I downloaded and installed). With 3/4 hours of browsing the battery lasts just a day, otherwise one day more. I also use it daily to check/send mail from my Gmail accounts.

    Two glaring negatives of the Galaxy 5:
    1) the 2MP camera (w/o autofocus or flash) might as well have not been there
    2) in bright sunlight the screen is dark and unreadable.

    The Galaxy 5 looks very similar to the Samsung Corby handset. I purchased it in Mumbai for Rs. 8,500 (early Nov. ’10) and am quite satisfied with the handset.

    The Galaxy 5 comes with Samsung’s PC suite (Kies). The s/w when installed on a laptop/PC enables the phone to be connected (via USB/BT) and used as a modem to enable online access using browsers installed on the laptop/PC. I use it quite frequently – the advantage being the 13″ display (of the laptop) instead of the 2.8″ of the cell phone. However the connection is slower than when browsing directly on the phone.

  11. When I bought this phone from mnvcollections.com I did find the shape a little unusual. But I like the 3.2 MP camera. and what is best is that this is the cheapest Android phone in the Indian market. I strongly recommend it. Others can keep ranting that it does not have this feature or that. But then they should also be ready to pay through their nose for those features. I however am happy with my Micromax Andro A60

  12. I am a proud owner of A60.
    Some of the shortcomings of A60 are :

    (1) Low Voice on Speakerphone ;
    (2) Low Ringtone ;
    (3) Camera is without flash ;
    (4) Screen Lock can be opened only through touch (There must be a provision through keys to open screen lock) ;
    (5) Takes long time to boot ;
    (6) Hindi Language Interface – NOT WORKING.
    (7) Hindi Language Keyboard is not provided.

    OVERALL RATING : 10/10 (@ Rs. 6250/- only)
