Mobile checkins, as seen in the image sitting above, were first introduced by Marriott back in July 2013. Based upon success with the mobile checkin process, Marriott Hotels has decided to also offer a mobile checkout process. This option is currently available at more than 300 locations and by way of the recently updated Marriott International app (available in the Play Store).

The locations, of which there are 326 at this time, can be found across North America. Marriott has also said an additional 22 international locations will begin supporting the mobile checkout process next week, and that support with all 500 properties worldwide will be coming “later this year.” Furthermore, this option will be offered exclusively for Marriott Rewards members.

That having been said, the checkout process appears to be rather simple and straight forward. Guests staying at the hotel can begin the process as early as 4AM on their departure day. Guests will be able to leave their key in the room, skip the check-out line in the lobby and also choose whether they want a copy of the bill. When using the app to checkout, guests will have two options — check out with, or without having a bill sent. Those looking for a copy of their bill will need to provide an email address.

While Marriott has expanded from mobile checkin, to mobile checkout, it seems they are still looking to provide guests with additional mobile services. According to Marriott, this will allow for a “truly digital two-way conversation” with guests. This next service is currently in testing with select “incubator” locations and will allow guests to request items from hotel staff using a chat feature in the mobile app.

Marriott has said this means everything from requesting extra pillows or towels, to valet parking and wake up calls. The list of incubator hotels include the following; New York Marriott Downtown, Chicago Marriott Downtown, San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, Denver Marriott West, Denver Airport Marriott Gateway, Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, Charleston (SC) Marriott, Boston Marriott Copley Place, Marriott Redmond (WA) Town Center, Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, Cincinnati Airport Marriott, Marco Island (FL) Marriott, and Grand Hotel (AL) Marriott Resort.
