Sometimes, the latest phone model with all its features and whistles and bells is not enough for a lot of mobile users. Sony understands this segment of the market and has launched a new website called Made for Xperia that allows consumers to see the various cases, protectors and extra goodies that are especially made for the newest Xperia models.
But the very glaring disclaimer on every page of the site emphasises that this is just basically a showcase for all the accessories created by third-party partners like Case-Mate, Incipio, Krusell and Roxfit and was not manufactured by Sony themselves. So that means if for some reason the brand new orange case that you bought wreaked havoc on your display, it means you have to file the complaint with the case brand and not the mobile company. In fact, the site just displays the products in a gallery and has a bit of information for each accessory, including a reference price. But if you want to purchase it, it will lead you to the specific brand’s website.
Last year, Motorola did a sort of similar thing when it launched its flagship Moto X. They created a “M4DE for Motorola” program wherein they partnered with several companies to create accessories, like the DECK wireless speakers form Sol Republic, that are specifically for Moto X.
For the Made for Xperia site, the accessories included are only for the latest models like the Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia M2. The brands that are participating in the online showcase are available to consumers in Europe for now, but if this becomes a hit, you may also see Sony expanding it to other regions.
