There are a lot of apps out there that bring you the news or articles relevant to your interests in either a magazine style or a digest format. And with so many sites, blogs, apps out there, you really need to streamline your information or else you will miss out on the things that matter and get stuck watching kittens do cute stuff. For a more “professional” news update, LinkedIn is now releasing a newly-redesigned Pulse app that will bring you the most relevant news related to your industry and your network.

Pulse was one of the earliest news reader apps out there, but its co-founder and now LinkedIn project manager, Akshay Kothari, said that even though they had tons of content in their first three years, they were lacking an identity to differentiate themselves from their competitors. But now, the partnership with LinkedIn has streamlined their content and their image into something that shows you all the most relevant news concerning the industry you’re working in.

Yes, you can still subscribe to the publishers that you want, but even without doing so, the app will bring you news in one simple stream, showing news that people in your network have shared or commented on, any news that mentions your company or the people that you work with. Even better (well, we hope it is better), Pulse now has over 130,000 unique original content that will be published every week, and if any of those are relevant to your industry or your network, you will also receive them in your stream.

The cards-based interface is also pretty handy as you can easily dismiss, save, follow authors, and share content, all without having to leave your stream. You can download the LinkedIn Pulse for free from the Google Play Store.

  1. LinkedIn & Pulse destroyed what was a good app with this update. Extremely limited feeds are available; Android users don’t need or want LinkedIn picking which stories should appear in a newsreader. Don’t waste your time.

This “review” is nothing more than the app description copied & pasted. My 4 year old knows how to copy & paste on a phone. The app & review is anything but “professional.”
