Yesterday word that the LG Optimus 2X smartphone would not be getting an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich surfaced from a source that seemed legitimate. The source was the LG Indian Facebook Page. LG is now backtracking on the Facebook post and saying that it denies the rumour of no ICS on the smartphone. LG is calling its official Indian Facebook page the source of the rumour, which is odd indeed.
The latest statement from LG now is that it is “currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X.” The company offered no time frame on when the update might hit for the smartphone after the launch of ICS early next year. It could be that LG saw the firestorm the announcement of no ICS for the Optimus 2x created and decided it was best to create the update after all.
This isn’t the first time LG has made an about face on not offering an update on a smartphone after public outcry. The last time it happened was when LG stated the Desire would not get the update to Gingerbread.
