Previously, it was the hearts of Moto 360 1st gen owners that got broken. Now it’s the turn of those who have the original LG G Watch to have their dreams dashed. Well, that is if their dreams included an upgrade to Android Wear 2.0. It’s actually old news already since the answer was apparently given last month, but some people wisely pointed out in the light of Motorola’s news the other day, that LG also confirmed that its older smartwatch will not be upgraded and is in fact already discontinued.

Just like with Motorola, the answer to the age old question “Will my (insert device) be upgraded to the latest (insert latest update version)?” happened on Twitter through the LG USA Mobile account. A user asked if his G Watch W100 will receive the Android Wear 2.0 update. LG responded saying, it’s not on their “current software update list”. In fact, it has been “discontinues” (pretty sure that was just a typo).

As to why it won’t be updated, there was no official reason given. But just like the 1st generation Moto 360, it’s probably because the 2-year-old smartwatch, which was one of the first ones to run on the Android Wear platform, will not be able to handle the demands of version 2.0. In a digital world, 2 year old gadgets are ancient, so that is understandable.

So again, if you are very much looking forward to Android Wear 2.0, then you might as well upgrade to a newer smartwatch. But if you’re still satisfied with the one you’ve got, then don’t bother.
