Earlier in the month there was a leak coming by way of French carrier SFR suggesting Android 4.4 Kit Kat was heading to the LG G2 in December. Well, while we have yet to hear anything confirming that timeline direct from LG, it looks like there may be some news for those in Canada. LG Canada has been talking about Kit Kat on the G2, though, the timeline may not be what many were hoping to hear.
MobileSyrup received word from Court Elliot of LG Canada who has said the update is planned for late Q1, 2014. Or in other words, it looks like the update will be coming sometime towards the end of March. The key there, that is apparently when LG will be giving the update to carriers, which means those in Canada still need some additional details.
Not to mention, that could mean those with one carrier or another may be waiting into April or beyond before Kit Kat arrives. On the flipside, the good news here is the handset will be going from Android 4.2.2 to Android 4.4 — seemingly skipping 4.3. LG G2 users also seem to have it a bit better than those with an earlier LG flagship.
The Optimus G is still running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Looking outside of France and Canada, we still haven’t seen anything from LG talking about a US release for Kit Kat on the G2. But as we often see in the US, the update will come from LG and still need carrier approval before arriving on devices. Basically, the US timeline for Kit Kat on the G2 will likely vary from carrier to carrier.
