We’ll finally have a glimpse and probably our hands on the LG G4 when it’s launched globally tomorrow, April 28. So much has been said and teased already but we’re interested to know about the genuine leather back material that the South Korean tech giant has been showing off a lot lately. So far, we know that the back cover will be leather and will be available in a variety of colors. This is the first time LG is using leather in a smartphone back cover and we’re expecting that feeling of exclusivity and luxury as with most premium leather products.
The LG G4 uses premium cow leather. LG chose to use this high quality leather for comfort during use and for excellent ventilation. A leather back offers a more comfortable grip according to LG. Unlike artificial leather, the LG G4’s leather material will last longer. It may be leather but it’s actually soft and light you won’t feel any added weight than expected. Looking at the leather back closely, you’ll notice very fine stitching for a more elegant but natural design you’d commonly see in luxury leather goods.
LG explains that the leather has 0.001-micrometer pores. The leather goes through a core process that is 10 times longer than it takes other companies to make a normal rear cover which usually takes four days. All in all, it takes 12 weeks or roughly 3 months to finish production. This very long process shows craftsmanship to be valued and at its finest.
The LG G4 leather back cover goes through a number of handmade work from stitching to the leather coating to smearing and some post-processing treatment to improve resistance to heat and moisture. Comfortable elegance is what LG is promising and with the way the company is manufacturing each and every piece, the LG G4 can be considered a work of art. This also means the LG G4 could be priced higher than the average price of past LG G phones.
South Korea will immediately be able to buy the LG G4 on April 29 with a rumored $825 price tag but let’s wait and see tomorrow.
