Meizu is one of the China-based gadget manufacturers that has benefited greatly from the breakout of Chinese tech companies into the global scene. The company has put out some solid competitors for the “affordable flagship” market – that is the mid to upper-midrange market of phones. We have a trio of leaked images here that are purportedly of the company’s new flagship, the Meizu Pro 5. Let’s dig in.

Meizu is known for their unique rounded shape – although a lot of newer gadgets are also going with the rounded, easy-to-grip sides. They also use Flyme OS for their user interface – a version of Android that they have tweaked. Again, this is common practice for manufacturers. Of these leaked images, the rounded shape is obvious (see image above), but the Flyme OS seems to have been eschewed for a stock Android feel.

Can this be true? If these leaks are true, and Meizu does put out options for a stock Android version, a lot of people will probably be happy. But a more realistic theory would be that these images are just early prototypes and do not contain the final version of Flyme OS that will be used when launched.

The Meizu Pro 5 will reportedly be phablet-sized, having a 5.7-inch Full HD (1080p) display. That will be powered by a Samsung Exynos 7420 chipset and 4GB RAM. Pretty robust, if we may say so. The phone is rumored to include a 21MP/5MP camera combo, a quick charge feature, and will be priced at around USD$470.
