One of the gadgets that received the CES Innovation Award earlier this year was not a smartphone or a tablet or a wearable, but an in-car device that will turn your vehicle’s boring old 2-DIN infotainment systems into something that is more apt for the touch-screen world we live in today. We got a glimpse of the JBL Legend CP100 in January, but now the actual units will start shipping by February 19 after it was supposed to go on sale last February 14.

The device sports a 6.75” touchscreen which for its price point of $399.95 is pretty good for an in-car device. It is Bluetooth connected so you can tether your smartphone or tablet to it. It has rear camera input and can easily be installed on to your steering wheel. It will also be able to give you turn-by-turn navigation through Android Auto. You’ll be able to do the usual things you can expect from a device like this like make calls, send messages, find directions, play music, and it does so in a safer and more intuitive way, according to them of course.

Design-wise, it’s not something groundbreaking. Just your simple looking black frame with white illuminated buttons and it comes with the standard power and volume buttons plus a push to talk button as well. Even though studies have shown that having connected in-car systems can prove more of a distraction for drivers, we all know we can’t help but look at our devices every once in a while. So why not just choose a safer alternative than actually touching our smartphones or tablets.

The JBL Legend CP100 is now available for pre-order at their official website, It costs $399.95 which is relatively cheaper than other connected systems. Delivery starts by February 19.

  1. The JBL website ordering system still says shipping will occur sometime in MAY 2016. Crutchfield has no shipping date at all as of yesterday. I find it hard to believe the product will ship Feb 18.
