Never underestimate China’s top smartphone maker. After making the Huawei GX8 available on GetHuawei.com and BestBuy.com as part of the phone’s launch in the US and bringing both the Honor 7 Premium and Honor 5X to Europe, Huawei, has just announced the new Y6 Pro.
Huawei has outed a Pro variant of the Y6 smartphone it launched last year. It seems like a new series because the last ‘Y’ phone from Huawei was the ‘Y 100‘ that was released in 2012. This new Android phone looks like a premium model because of the ‘Pro’ reference.
Is is premium phone? Well yes, if we will only look at the the battery size which is large at 4,000mAh. However, this Huawei Y6 Pro comes with a 5-inch HD display screen, 5MP selfie camer, 13MP rear camera, 2GB RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, and only 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735P chipset. The processor used is the same one found in the Lenovo VIBE P1m and ARCHOS 50 and 55 Helium Plus phones unveiled at the IFA 2015. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, Dual-SIM support, Emotion UI 3.1 Lite, and Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.
The back and front of the smartphone looks similar to the Huawei GX8 but the Y6 Pro’s back panel boasts of a unique water-ripple design and an ergonomic grip feel. Phone features a full-metal frame so you know this one can survive some rough use. Making this a winner really is the 4000mAh battery coupled with Huawei’s patented Smart Power Saving technology. It can also work as a charger for other gadgets and can last for days depending on how you use it.
No information on availability and pricing yet but the Huawei Y6 Pro should cost around $350 to $400.

If they would just be smart enough to go stock Android they’d kill it!
“It seems like a new series because the last ‘Y’ phone from Huawei was the ‘Y 100’ that was released in 2012.” No, this is wrong. There are several other Y series devices on sale here in Kenya released as recently as 2015.
