Huawei seems to be enjoying being on top of the mobile game in China. It always comes up with new products (too many similar models actually) that are affordable yet with impressive quality. It’s still firm in its decision to be the No. 1 smartphone maker in five years so the company is doing its best in entering several industries. It has already established its place in the mobile arena, edging out Xiaomi for the past several quarters now. This time, we heard that Huawei wants to have its own mobile OS.
Instead of depending on Android, Huawei is said to be build its own version of a mobile platform. It’s something like what Samsung is doing with the Tizen OS. Apparently, Huawei “doesn’t want to be on the crutch of Android” as per a recent report by The Information. Huawei hasn’t made any announcement or hasn’t given any hint yet but rumor has it that former Nokia employees are part of the team working in Scandinavia.
This development, if true, could be a response to what Google is doing to strengthen the Nexus line. Perhaps Huawei is thinking that it will be left out once the Internet giant focuses on its own phone series. We’re assuming that Huawei’s hiring of former Apple director Abigail Brody may have something to do with the bold move.
For now, Huawei has the EMUI on top of the Android and the OEM is set to release the next version which is believed to be more Material Design than iOS now. This means new icons, new app drawer, and new colors.
Knowing Huawei, there’s a possibility that it might be true because the brand has always been about surprising the tech industry. But seriously, we hope it’s not true because Android is enough. The mobile world doesn’t need another mobile platform. Companies just have to improve on them. OEMs like Huawei can always come up with a better UI experience so better do some more research and development.
