The HTC M10 codenamed as the HTC Perfume phone was shown off yesterday, at least, a mockup image of it. It looks similar to any other HTC smartphone but the HTC Perfume is now rumored to use a 12MP Sony IMX377 sensor. It’s a different information from the 12MP UltraPixel main camera we learned yesterday. The Sony sensor is the same one used in the latest Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. We’re looking at this as another rumor so let’s all take this with a pinch of salt for now.

We got this leaked information from @LlabTooFeR who tweeted that the HTC Perfume UltraPixels will be comprised of a Samsung s5k4e6 5MP UltraPixel front camera and a 12MP Sony IMX377 1.55mm camera. The advantage of the Sony IMX377 sensor is that it works great even in low light conditions. The sensor can collect more light it can use when capturing photos even when it is dim or at night.

We learned from a previous comparison that the Sony IMX377 sensor-laden Nexus 6P’s images are clearer, have more vivid colors, and blacks are less grainy when compared with the Sony Xperia Z5. That’s ironic because the Xperia Z5 is considered as having one of the best cameras today. It’s on top of DxoMark mobile image and video benchmarks.

As for the front-facing camera, is is believed to have a Samsung S5K4E6 5MP CMOS image sensor which actually uses ISOCELL technology. The HTC Perfume’s camera might have smaller UltraPixels this time. There’s also a mention of a phase detection autofocus being combined with laser-assisted autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS). If that’s the case, then we can say this HTC Perfume will win in the imaging department.
