For HTC fans everywhere, today marks another step towards getting their hands on HTC’s new flagship phone, the HTC One M9. After the MWC 2015 launch, everybody knew that March 16 was the day the phone starts selling in HTC’s home market in Taiwan – and that day is upon us, finally. Say hello to the HTC One M9, in both 32GB and 64GB models.
Amid sacred drum beats and orchestra music at Taiwan’s Chi Mei Museum, the HTC One M9 finally appeared as listed, with the 32GB model selling at 21,900 TWD (that’s around USD$690) and the 64GB selling at 23,900 TWD (around USD$754). The 64GB model looks especially nice, and HTC fans will be hoping that the company will be bringing that specific model outside Taiwan.
For now though, only the Taiwan market is receiving HTC One M9 love – there is no information yet as to when these models will be shipping towards the US market. Unlike the new Samsung Galaxy S6, this new model of the HTC One flagship is expandable via microSD card, giving users more options for storage.
Storage options notwithstanding, it looks to be another solid year for HTC competing at the flagship level with the other big boys of the industry in Samsung, Sony, LG, and Apple. The US market has been particularly a good one for HTC, with a lot of users flocking to their carriers to get the beautiful phone made from one solid block of aluminum. Will it be the same for the HTC One M9? Sadly, it will take a while before we find out, as the latest word is that HTC is delaying the launch of smartphone due to unspecified software bug, suspected to be related to the camera. No word yet on when the launch will push through, but it wouldn’t be surprising nor unwelcome if it happened before the month is over.
