Those with hurt feelings over the release of a special Harman Kardon edition for the HTC One M8 need not nurse those negative vibes any longer. Thanks to XDA Recognized Developer baadnewz, anyone with an HTC One M8, from any or no carrier, can also enjoy the new listening experience as well.

A very special edition of HTC’s 2014 flagship was just unveiled bearing the name of the acclaimed audio equipment maker. Naturally, this version is advertised to have uber audio mojo. The HTC BoomSound speakers were supposedly tweaked by Harman Kardon for better audio quality, but most of the changes happened on the software level, fortunately. This allowed more enterprising individuals, like the aforementioned baadnewz, to take that exclusivity and share it for everyone to enjoy.

All that you need, aside from an HTC One M8, of course, is a rooted device with a custom recovery. The latter is needed because you will practically be flashing a special H/K ZIP file to enable the Harman Kardon effect. If you’re lucky, rebooting after flashing the file will introduce a new harman/kardon audio entry in the phone’s settings app. If not, the developer has provided some troubleshooting Q&A to help iron out the more common issues.

While most of the testers who have gotten their hands on the flashable image have reported success and happiness, it is never a guarantee that it will work 100 percent for everyone. Unless you’re a firm believer of the aural bliss that the new H/K edition claims to deliver, this might be an undertaking more fit for those who have already rooted their devices.
