While Android apps are generally “OEM agnostic”, which means any smartphone running on the platform will be able to install and use them (with a few exceptions of course), lately we’ve been seeing a mini-trend of some brands bringing their proprietary apps to the Google Play Store. Motorola and Sony have brought their apps to that marketplace, although their target is still their own users. HTC is another manufacturer that has brought some exclusive apps to GPS, all the better to update it faster of course.

The latest HTC app to receive an update is BlinkFeed, their very own newsfeed reader that can be used as the home screen of their One devices. While there are other more popular newsfeed readers like Flipboard, Google News, Zite, etc, if you prefer having one that the rest of the non-HTC Android world can’t have, then BlinkFeed is your app. Aside from the usual bug fixes and performance improvements, the latest update lets users better customize the things they see on their BlinkFeed. For example, they can now easily subscribe to an event, a category or subcategory, with just one click.

You will also be getting items on your newsfeed that fit your preferences, if you just input the ones you like to see and if you connect it to your social networks, which is often a reflection of the topics and categories that you normally like reading about. Also, now when you click on a topic, you’ll be able to easily see all the recent headlines related to that category.

Earlier this year, there were some indications that HTC was eventually going to allow other Android users to have this app on their devices as well, but that seems to not be true (yet?) as of the moment. So, HTC users only, you can download or update BlinkFeed from the Google Play Store to enjoy all the new features and options we mentioned.
