The long-awaited update for HBO GO bringing Android tablet support has finally arrived late last night. When HBO updated their app last month with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich support, yet not tablet support many were surprised and a bit let down. HBO later confirmed a tablet version was coming soon and now it’s finally here. Check out the screenshots and video streaming quality below.

Back in May HBO claimed the update would arrive early summer, and I’m happy to announce they’ve stuck to that and released it as of last night for all Android tablets running “up to” Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or above. This means all those still on Honeycomb can also enjoy HBO GO, unless they meant only ICS devices, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

I’ve gone ahead and fired up HBO GO on my Transformer Prime running ICS and so far everything is excellent. The sign-in screen can be a bit clunky but once you’re in and all set up everything is a breeze. HBO might not offer the same amount of options as Netflix but I’ll tell you one thing, their streaming certainly is better and higher quality — not to mention all those series like The Newsroom, True Blood, Bill Maher and many more.

I’m extremely excited to see that HBO has finally updated with tablet support, although sadly it doesn’t appear to be compatible with Jelly Bean on my Nexus 7 or Galaxy Nexus. Hopefully they fix that soon. Check out the screenshots of video playback and more from my gallery below, then hit the link to get HBO GO for your tablet today.
