Motorola’s Moto Mods for the Moto Z and Moto Z Force Android devices are coming. We haven’t really played with one but we already know a few like the Insta-Share Projector, Power Pack, SoundBoost, Theater Mod, Adventure Mod, Stereo Mod, and the Style Mod. There’s also the Pro Camera Mod which we’re guessing is this one with the Hasselblad brand.
A partnership with a popular camera brand and a phone company isn’t surprising. We’ve heard similar projects before like the most recent one–the Huawei P9 with Leica lens. The latter is described as “co-engineered” with Leica and not made by another Chinese OEM as already noted by the phone maker.
This particular Moto Mod is believed to be for the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. Hasselblad isn’t supplying the lens. It seems this cam module is a full camera that can be attached to the Motorola Z phone. It appears the camera can stand on its own. It comes with a Xenon flash, shutter button, and a 10x optical zoom lens.
We’re hoping to see this particular Moto Mod at the IFA 2016 happening in September. Together with the other MotoMods, expect the Hasselblad camera module to make some noise in Berlin. We’re excited to see what other Moto Mods or programs will be shown off especially now that Motorola launched the Moto Mods developer portal.
