And just like that, we’ve seen the end of March this week and are moving to April – this year is flying by so fast. Allow us to usher in a new month here in our “Games of the Week” feature, where we give you the lowdown on the top games to check out so you have company on those long commutes to work, or winding down the day on your bed. Seen any interesting games lately? You might have done, but this is what we’re here for, to help you out by giving you five great reasons to visit the Google Play Store later – why, great games, of course! Here we go!

LEGO Jurassic World

LEGO Jurassic World 1

If the love for dinosaurs never left you – or you have a kid at home who loves playing with dinosaurs – either way LEGO Jurassic World should appeal to you. One of the LEGO mobile games that has been highly anticipated, the game allows you to explore Isla Nublar in all its dinosaur-y glory. And it’s not just content from the new movie that’s there – fans will love that instances from the original Jurassic Park movie, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park III are also included. Choose to play as Owen, Claire, Ian, Dr. Wu, or even as one of the dinosaurs and explore the island to look for that precious amber that contains dinosaur DNA. This should be a treat, even at USD$4.00 pricing.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Nobody who has played Borderlands goes away not loving it, or at least enjoyed their time gaming so much. This is why the franchise is so famous with gamers. To that, we have a treat for all of you who own an NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV device. 2K Games is calling this Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel – that is, a sequel to the first Borderlands game and a prequel to Borderlands 2 – and it’s out exclusively for the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV console. That’s right, you can’t get this anywhere else. As per usual, it’s going to be a lot of fun shooting up the whole planet and getting rid of the bad guys. Click the Android Games store on your NVIDIA SHIELD to purchase the game which is priced at a premium USD$14.99. Don’t worry, this is one purchase you will not regret.

Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2

Marvel is keen to continue the hype for its Marvel cinematic universe, especially as things are on a lull now movie-wise (until X-Men Apocalypse rolls in) and DC is tearing it up with its own movies. That said, Marvel fans will love this Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2, the new incarnation of the turn-based action RPG game that launched in 2012. Players will fight turn-based 3-on-3 battles, building teams with Marvel superheroes. The more you play and win, the more XP you get to level up your heroes and their stats. The game is free to download over at the Play Store.

Prison Run and Gun

Here’s a new take on your 8-bit platformer – and if you loved the TV series Prison Break, you’ll probably enjoy this one as well. The TV series and the game have nothing to do with each other, except of course that they share the same context – you need to escape prison. There is the basic platformer gameplay, but they complicate things a bit with a gun. When your player gets a gun, he will have protection, but will not be able to jump as high. To get over high ledges, you will have to let go of your gun. Sounds cool, yes? Check out the game via the link below, it’s priced at USD$1.99 but that’s an all-in price – no IAPs whatsoever.

Hex Defender

Hex Defender 2

Ah, a tower defense game, at last. We can’t remember the last time we featured one, mainly because there are a lot of TD games in the Play Store, and only a few ones that stand out. This one certainly did – it’s called Hex Defender. As with many brilliant games, this one is simple in nature. The enemies will come after you from left and right, trying to get into the middle of the hexagon to reach the crystal placed in the middle of the rotating figure. The hex formation makes it more challenging – the turrets are positioned differently and are rotatable, so picking the right turrets and rotating them in correct timing will be the basis of your survival. The game is free to download, so if you’re the tower defense type (like we are), check out the link below.
