You’ve all probably heard that Google will be nixing the Nexus brand name after sticking with it for years to align its hardware line to the “Pixel” brand name. So in around a month’s time, we will be seeing the new Android reference smartphones from Google as the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL. Now an interesting rumor from leakster “LlabTooFeR” says that these new phones will come out with Android 7.1 out of the box.
So taking all that in, the rumor alludes to a couple of things, but mainly this: there is a major update to Android Nougat coming very soon, and these HTC-made Pixel phones will probably be the first to have them. It actually makes sense, given that the Android Nougat launch felt like there were a lot of things missing from the features when compared to the features discussed during the period of hype when Google was marketing Android 7.0.
Missing from the Nougat launch build was the new Launcher that was being hyped so much, Google Assistant, and full Daydream support for virtual reality platforms. Good money will be to expect these features arriving along with the two new Pixel smartphones.
Again, taking other rumors into consideration, the launch will probably be on October 4th. That launch party will be headlined by the two new smartphones, plus what is possibly the first Daydream VR headset, and an expected update to devices under the Android Wear line.
