In the ever expanding world of mobile, Google is preparing to take Android to another place, the car. Google, along with several auto partners have unveiled the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA), which is being described as a way to accelerate auto innovation. There was also mention of openness, customization and the ability to scale.

The auto partners include Audi, GM, Honda and Hyundi. Also included in the mix was NVIDIA. Details coming from Google touch on how this is simply another step in the multi-screen world. Meaning this will allow users to continue the connected device experience, just now it would include you smartphone and tablet, as well as your car.

Further details here touch on how this means users will be able to put those tablets and smartphones aside while in the car, but still be able to enjoy and have access to the apps the want or need while driving. The key with that, this setup would be looking to handle those apps in a method a bit more optimized for driving using the built-in controls and in-dash display of your car.

While there are some details, and partners for the OAA have been announced, it was also made clear this is just the beginning. To that point, Google has said the goal is to build a “common platform to drive innovation in the car and bring Android to the open road.” They key though, there isn’t much more at this time other than a promise to “stay tuned in 2014” for more updates.
