What do you do when you literally have more sheep than residents but you want to tell the whole world how wonderful your country is? Well of course you enlist the help of the sheep. That’s what Durita Andreassen from Faroe Islands decided to do as she equipped a few sheep to help her collect images and videos for a Google Street View for the country known as “Sheep Island” and of course called it Sheep View.

But to make it better, of course Google had to get involved in order to help put more system and order to the filming of the elements. So Google sent over some equipment and a person to train Durita and her sheep and everyone else who wanted to help include the Faroe Islands in the Google Street View. The islands have around 50,000 residents and 70,000 sheep, so they probably need some help doing this. As part of their Street View Loan program, Google provided a trekker and 360 cameras to add to the imagery that the rest of the world can see.

Pretty soon, a lot of other people in the community started getting involved. Whether they were riding horses, skating down the streets, walking with backpacks or selfie sticks, riding kayaks, etc. And they’re even inviting tourists visiting their islands to also participate and go to the Visit Faroe Islands office in Tórshavn or the Atlantic Airways and they will be lent a Street View 360 camera.

In fact, Google is encouraging areas that don’t have Google Street View imagery yet to either use their own 360 cameras or apply for a Street View Loan program in order to show the world what they can see in your hometown. Hey, if the sheep can do it, then so can you!
