We’re excited about the new Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X because Google has promised a lot of great new features. That’s expected especially since the two devices already run the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Both phones feature a faster charging USB Type-C connector, as well as, faster fingerprint reader.

Google has also packed an Android Sensor Hub in each Nexus. It’s a new small piece of hardware that is said to bring more features to the phone. It can also extend battery life as it can detect data and other phone activities. The Android Sensor Hub is a small sensor and a low-power processor that can manage data, allowing the phone’s main processor to sleep whenever possible. And with the advanced battery-saving modes (App Standby and Doze), expect that battery is saved significantly.

The component also works with several phone sensors such as the fingerprint reader, gyroscope, and accelerometer–allowing the Sensor Hub to read and interpret gestures, activities, and more. The main purpose of the Sensor Hub is to keep battery consumption as low as possible.

Sensor Hub can also delay handing off data for a shorter span instead of a constant stream. Doing this will not need any processor to stay awake. Only the latest Nexus smartphones have the Android Sensor Hub. Google said it will be a standard feature in future Android devices so that’s something to look forward to.
