Google founder Larry Page has defended Android’s power management, suggesting that poorly designed apps rather than the core OS are to blame for batteries that won’t last a full day.  Speaking at a Google event this week, Page told the audience that he’d found Android battery life to be “pretty good”; CEO Eric Schmidt elaborated, suggesting that “people bring in applications that are not particularly smart about [managing cellular radio use].”

“I have noticed there are a few people who have phones where there is software running in the background that just sort of exhausts the battery quickly. If you are not getting a day, there is something wrong.” Larry Page, Google

As for what they hope to do about the issue, neither Page nor Schmidt seemed keen to take it seriously – or to call on better developer investment in making apps more power frugal.  Instead, Page jokingly offered reporters “a bigger battery”.
