We’ve just received word from German Android site SmartDroid.de that they’ve got a friend sitting in at Samsung in Frankfurt who’s heard a rather important update to the status of Galaxy S devices to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. They’ve heard, apparently straight from Samsung, that Gingerbread will be coming to Galaxy S in March. Will this just be in Germany, or will it be worldwide? We’re guessing at least Germany and USA, though that’d be an odd combination.

We’ve been waiting QUITE a while for this update, especially since Froyo is still scarcely to be seen on Android phones across the board. When will the future include universal updates to all units? Never. When will we see Gingerbread on Galaxy S? Next month! We’re pumped.

  1. Why would you assume USA would be one of the first to get Gingerbread, when the rollout of Froyo is not done yet, full of bugs and USA was almost LAST to get the update.

No I think EVERYWHERE else will get it before you guys do.

  3. See this is where it all starts! One blog/post/twit and now everyone is going to be screaming yelling and bitching that they haven’t got it when March gets here. I will believe it when Samsung announces it and even then I will be very skeptical.

  4. Yeah, come on. My Galaxy S update to Froyo was just made official YESTERDAY. There’s no way next month they will turn around and say “Go ahead. Update to Gingerbread now.” At least they have the software down in place to make it happen, though… but since Froyo was about 6 months late, I’m calling for Gingerbread to be… around September maybe.

  5. I think tbeir talking about the international model of Galaxy S, not the US Galaxy S.

    2.2 last Octobe
    2.2.1 last December
    2.3 this March

I’ll wait for samfirmware to upload the Gingerbread update on yheir site then flash it on my phone via Odin

  6. Samsung releasing 2.3 to their partners in March is -completely- believable. Froyo 2.2’s been to their partners for a long time. Getting those partners to integrate and release 2.3 is a completely different story. Chances are very good that most carriers will choose to not even bother.

  8. This is possible if Samsung is talking about the International model of Galaxy S. unlike you guys from the US. Europe received the promised froyo last Octo er followed by Asia & Australia last November. Samsung updates the International model on time
