You’ve been there, sometimes every week. You’re watching your football club’s weekend game when the manager makes a seemingly stupid decision that cost them the game. You scream at the TV (or in the stadium), you curse, you wail (yes, sports fans do that right?) and you say the words “If I were the manager…” Well, there’s a game that has allowed frustrated football fans to take back the power, at least on their mobile devices.

Football Manager Handheld is back with the 2015 edition and it comes with an improved match engine, a new agency to help you look for talented players, and better ranking system for teams and leagues around the world. If you’re a new football fan and want to play mobile games where hand-eye coordination isn’t necessarily a requirement, then you might want to try this out. You get to select the players that you want, choose the tactics you get to play on the pitch, and then transfer those that don’t perform well. You won’t actually play the game unlike other football games. You just sit back and watch the new and improved 2D Match Engine work its magic from the team you’ve created.

You also now have a Scouting Agency where you can look at the 50 best players around the world not just based on their current ability but with their future potential as well. There is also a ranking page where you can monitor how teams actually perform in real life so you can also base your decisions about players and tactics there. Statistics for clubs and teams and players are very crucial in a game like this, and so they’ve also improved this aspect of the app. Another change here is that you can now assign player roles to each player on your squad so if you think your defender will perform better if he was in the midfield, you can make that call.

Some would balk at the price of this game, but those who’ve played past editions seem to know that this is pretty reasonable and you would not hesitate spending this much (and maybe more for other in-app purchases) for a game like this. Football Manager Handheld is available for $9.99 at the Google Play Store.
