As if viewing cards and messaging weren’t distracting, not to mention controversial, enough, now we get to play games, too. That is definitely what French game developer AMA is aiming for by trying to bring their popular Escape! game to Google Glass.
The concept for Escape! is simple enough to grasp. You direct a character named Norm over a random sequence of circles so that he goes over all of them. You can move him up, down, left, and right. The only caveat is that you cannot retrace your step or go over a circle more than once. It’s a modern and creative twist to an age-old puzzle, and is available for free on the Play Store to play any time anywhere on your Android device.
AMA is attempting to squeeze the game into an even smaller space by porting it over to Google Glass. Controlling the game is done via swiping on the Glass’ trackpad. This isn’t the game’s final form yet, as AMA is still waiting for a few more pieces to fall into place, such as more developer tools as well as the final form of Glass hardware, which could still change before it goes out for public consumption.
In the meantime, AMA is gearing up to develop more games for Google Glass, including less casual and probably more intensive games. And while Escape! is said to have saved many a commuter from dying of boredom, one hopes that future Glass users will exercise restraint and a pinch of common sense when playing the game in less idle situations.
