We’ve been mentioning DirecTV Now a lot lately. AT&T has been aggressive in marketing its own Internet TV streaming service. It used to be just a bundle but the carrier is pushing it further by launching a standalone mobile app. Note that this ‘NOW’ version is a streaming service for Live TV and On Demand and is different from the old DirecTV app.
Downloading and installing the new app shouldn’t be a problem for Android users but according to a discussion on XDA, it’s not supported on rooted devices. That’s not really surprising because some apps have that limitation.
Some are even reporting they can’t see the app like on their rooted Amazon FireTV. Good thing though the latter has a solution already: download from this LINK. Log in to your Amazon account, choose device, then ‘Deliver’.
Other XDA members have also reported the same thing but as expected, the problem was solved immediately. Someone suggested to use the ‘Hide My Root APK‘. When asked how it was possible, XDA member spotmark said he simply installed it and hid the SU. Problem solved.
People are questioning why AT&T would make things difficult since they’re paying for the service. Installing on a rooted device shouldn’t be a hindrance because a premium is required. Oh well, I guess that’s just one of the many disadvantages of rooting.
