Only a few days after the CM 11.0 and 12.0 final snapshots were released for flashing, the CyanogenMod 12.1 nightlies get updated with more features. The whole Cyanogenmod community thanks Jorge Ruesga (jruesga) and Danny Baumann (maniac103) for the latest contributions. With the latest updates, expect to see Imap push enhancements, WiFi priorities being changed, and some features to CMSDK & Dynamic Tiles.
In CM 12.1, auto-configuration of connection to a known network has been disabled. This means you can choose a preferred WiFi network instead of being connected automatically. Others may find this inconvenient but there are those who want to connect to more familiar networks that are reliable. Bringing back this feature to CM 12.2 makes sense because auto-management doesn’t always work for everyone. If in Android L, the platform allows the phone to auto-manage list of a user, you can now disable this on Settings> WiFi> Menu> Saved Networks. You can now also reorder the items by simply dragging and dropping the networks.
Another update includes CMSDK & Dynamic Tiles. With the use of CMSDK, you can create custom tiles of a certain event so others can access more information that are not usually accessible. The Dynamic Tiles now allows the user to view apps that have active root access. When in a root session, the # symbol will then appear in the status bar.
This CMSDK project by Adnan Begovic (Decad3nce) is still in its early stages but certainly has potential to make a big difference. This is actually the first time the Quick Settings tiles API will be used within the custom OS and then added into the nightlies.
There are also some enhancements in push IMAP as it is one of the more requested features from. The IMAP IDLE protocol has been implemented to the Email app. It allows receiving email changes as soon as detected by the server. The goal is to maintain an active connection all the time so server can push timely notifications all the time. Note that the stock Email app also received recent updates in one of the CM12.1 nightlies, one of which is the implementation of the IMAP IDLE protocol.
