Charging our mobile devices quickly is always a major concern for the digital natives, especially the ones who are always on the go. So any new gadget or accessory that promises to make things easier for us in this aspect always catches our eye. A new Kickstarter project called USB ChargeDoubler is pretty self-explanatory, as it brings faster charging power to our mobile devices when you connect it to a computer, power bank or wall outlet using this tiny, portable USB cable.

At first glance, it doesn’t look much. It seems like any other USB cable connector. But inside is another story as it “communicates with your charging source” and gives you 200% more speed than if you use any other ordinary cable. Instead of the usual 500 mA that most use, the full current used by this cable is 1.000 mA, hence the product name. It charges twice as fast, thereby cutting into half your usual charging time.

It has a magnetic lock and you won’t get tangled up with anything because it just has a 2.35″ overall length. It means that your device will always be near you, it also means that your “movement” when charging is pretty limited. But you’d give up mobility just for the chance to charge faster right? It also protects the data on your mobile device so that there won’t be any chance that your stored information will be hacked when you connect it to an unknown laptop or netbook. The device comes in five different colors (light blue, orange, lime green, pink, and grey) so if you’re conscious about that kind of thing, then you have options.

This Kickstarter project has already more than reached its goal of€2,750 (currently, it’s at €19, 281) and there are still 25 days to go. It’s part of Kickstarter Germany but it ships anywhere in the world.

This is a crowdfunded project, and as such may not deliver what its creators initially promise. Most crowdfunding sites, like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, have policies about what happens to your money if the project fails to deliver on its goals, but choosing to back a project is inevitably a risk. Android Community’s reporting on crowdfunded projects should in no way be seen as an endorsement, unless specifically stated, and we recommend closely examining the terms and conditions to understand your individual rights as a backer before making a pledge.
