When Casio unveiled its first smartwatch at CES 2016 last January, they were obviously marketing towards a market that would need a rugged and fully functional wearable rather than the fashion conscious users. It has since then gotten mostly positive reviews from various entities and now, those who are looking forward to owning one can mark their calendars. The award-winning Smart Outdoor Watch, the WSD-F10 will soon be available by March 25 in online stores.

Aside from having useful apps and features, the smartwatch has been built with the rugged outdoors in mind. It has passed military standard MIL-STD-810 specifications and water resistance for up to 50 meters, as well as shock and vibration protection. It has a 1.33-inch dual layer display with a 320 x 300 pixel resolution and a Lithium ion battery that will last for more than one day.

To ensure that it will appeal to those who are often trekking, walking in the great outdoors, climbing mountains, camping etc, the wearable has a ViewRanger GPS app for trekking, Runkeeper, MyRadar, and Timepiece Mode. You can check the direction, altitude, atmospheric pressure, sunrise and sunset times, tide graphs and activity graphs, all information you would need if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors. You will also be able to get notifications from the apps that are important to you.

Casio’s Smart Outdoor Watch will have a retail price of $500 and will be available in red, green, black and orange colors. You will be able to buy it through Amazon, Google Store, REI and Casio’s own online store.

  1. I think one of the key things missed here is that it falls back to regular timepiece mode for up to 30 days on a single charge. Especially useful outdoors away from chargers.
