Smart home is set to expand this year together with virtual reality technology. However, progress is a bit slow but at least we know it’s moving in the right direction. One brand we didn’t expect would enter the game is Belkin as it is more popular with mobile accessories such battery packs, protective phone cases, and tablet covers. The company ventured into smart home a couple of years ago and we were soon introduced to the WeMo app.
WeMo is Belkin International’s own smart home brand. It works with a companion app to control Wemo products. This time, Belkin is proud to announce that it can be integrated with the Nest. The latter is Google’s own thermostat system that lets build an energy-efficient home.
The WeMo app won’t function as just a remote control, voice control, or timer. WeMo users are allowed to check if devices and appliances are turned off at home when no one is around or even prepare the home when you’re about to arrive as made possible by the Nest Thermostat integration. This integration allows a smart home owner the ability to manipulate devices at home to turn on or off the fan, heater, or AC when he is away or are still on the way home.
This development also makes the Nest Thermostat in line with other Wemo products like the Wemo Maker, Wemo Light Switch, Wemo Insight Switch, and Wemo Switch. Nest compatibility will be added to the Wemo app via updates.
