It took a while, but it’s finally here for all of you who own an ASUS ZenFone 2, an app to officially unlock your bootloader so you can flash and install custom ROMs and tweaks. Locking the bootloader is what manufacturers often do to prevent this from happening, but power users and tweakers usually find a way around it anyways, so this is a good move from ASUS.
The ASUS ZenFone 2 is one of, if not the most popular smartphone from ASUS, mainly because there are like a hundred different variants. Ok we exaggerate, but the ASUS ZenFone 2 does have a lot of variants to appeal to different markets and budget considerations. But the top of the line ZenFone 2 is a beast – with a 2.3Ghz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor to power that gorgeous 5.5-inch Full HD (1080p) IPS LCD display. If you remember, the ZenFone 2 was also one of the first smartphones in the market to full utilize 4GB of RAM.
So this is a good device to tweak and customize, and this official bootloader unlock will help a lot of power users do exactly that. You can download the utility from the source link below. We imagine that after that, you will be able to flash custom ROM images directly from recovery.
Just remember, though, that when you flash custom ROMs, the ZenFone 2 has a lot of variants, and you better find out what your variant model number is to make sure the custom ROM you are flashing is for the said variant.
