Google partnered with ASUS to bring Chrome OS in a smaller form. The Chromebit was introduced as a Chrome OS HDMI stick that brings Google’s computer OS for less than a hundred dollars to more people who need a simple computing platform. Chromebit looks like the first-gen Chromecast in its small dongle form but slimmer and more attractive. Actually, it looks more like USB thumbdrive in pretty colors–blue, orange, and silver gray.

The Chromebit features a 16GB on-storage, 2GB RAM, Rockchip ARM processor, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and one USB port. Obviously, its power and capabilities are limited but good enough for doing quick work wherever an HDMI display is available. So even when you don’t bring your laptop, you can just have the Chromebit and maybe a small Bluetooth keyboard with you. This way, you can access any web apps, Google Docs, or Drive to retrieve your files.

Chromebit is an alternative to a Chromebox or Chromebook. It also features Hulu and Netflix so you are free to enjoy your favorite TV shows and movies wherever you are. It’s ideal to use as an ultra-portable media system so you or your kids won’t get bored when you’re at home or while on a vacation. It’s probably the most convenient and most portable mini-computer that you can bring anywhere next to your trusty old Android smartphone.

Chromebit costs only $85. It’s really cheap but adding another fifty dollars will already get you a Chromebook. But then again, this Chromebit is just a new option for portability and quick computing solution or maybe some Internet gaming. This device will be ready on Newegg, Fry’s and Amazon very soon. Chromebit will also be available in the following countries aside from the US: Canada, Australia, Finland, Denmark, Japan, Spain, Norway, New Zealand, Taiwan, UK, and Sweden.
