Hopefully this is final and would put to rest the seemingly endless waiting, which was really just a month, for Gameloft‘s newest racing game. If things work out as they plan, we will have Asphalt 8: Airborne in our hands by August 22.

Google spilled the beans on the game’s August 8 release date when it was demoed running on the new Nexus 7 last month, whether Gameloft intended it or not. But just a day before the expected date, Gameloft officially announced that it will be delaying the release of the game. Meanwhile, fakes with deceptive names have sprouted up to lure excited gamers into an unknown fate. Something which we hopefully won’t have to deal with anymore once the real thing appears.

The company has now announced, again officially, via Twitter that it will be releasing the game next week. In the meantime, it is running a contest over at its blog for a chance to win pre-launch download codes of the game. The winner will be announced on August 19 before the game hits Google Play Store and Apple App Store on the 22nd. 21 copies are at stake, so why not try your luck?

The game features 8 new maps in locations such as London, Tokyo, Nevada, and Iceland. It will also feature a new physics engine that gives a more realistic feeling when you destroy objects or perform stunts. A new weather system also introduces rain-soaked roads, dust, and ice that will surely make Asphalt 8: Airborne more challenging. Not bad for a game that will cost only $0.99.

Erm…that means, it will be a half freemium (aka free to play – pay to win) game. As far as I know Gameloft, they will offer you tons of inapp payments in the game. Plus advertising etc. etc.
As you have seen in Dungeon Hunter 4 or Real Racing 3 inapp payments are crap.
    Thanks but no thanks.
