Despite having a promised release date of September 19th, it looks like Rovio has released Angry Birds Star Wars II for Android a day ahead of schedule. Rovio had said they would be releasing Angry Birds Star Wars II for free and for $0.99. The free version would be ad-supported and the paid version would be ad-free. With that in mind, at this time it looks like only the paid version is available.
We have yet to see whether Rovio plans to release the free version today or tomorrow as originally expected, but we do offer this warning for those searching — beware of the fake Angry Birds Star Wars II apps. While there is likely more than one fake available, be especially alert for one by Activision Studios as it is somewhat convincing. Bottom line here, look for Angry Birds Star Wars II as the game name from Rovio Mobile Ltd before you download.
Anyway, as we had been seeing in the earlier teasers, Angry Birds Star Wars II has arrived with new gameplay, new characters and new features. One of the highlights here include being able to join the pork side. While this may be a bit silly of a name, this does mean that for the first time — you will be able to play as a pig.
The game has more than 30 characters that are available to play with. These include Yoda, pod-racing Anakin, Mace Windu, Jango Fett, Darth Maul, Darth Vader, General Grievous and plenty others. And for those not ready to commit to just one character, rest assured in knowing you can switch back and forth. In fact, you can swap characters as you play.
Aside from the regular gameplay, this release also brings TELEPODS support. With that, those looking for the paid version (at $0.99) can use this Google Play Store link to get started. And nicely done on the part of Rovio, this version has proper support for smartphones as well as tablets.
