Welcome back to the latest issue of Android Community Weekly! This past Monday the new HTC Status for AT&T went on sale for $50. Later on, details of the Samsung Galaxy Q phone/tablet leaked; sources also say the Galaxy Q may sport a 5.3” bezel-free folding display.
We heard that CyanogenMod 7 nightlies for the Samsung Galaxy S II were coming soon earlier on this week, and as of Thursday, it has been available on the download mirrors! Those itching to have their own Galaxy S II shouldn’t have to wait too much longer, as it may head to the US in August. Yet another rather new device receiving it’s own customized ROM is the Motorola Droid X2. It’s titled MinX ROM Beta, and improvements include removed bloatware and performance enhancements. We should see some new ROMs very soon for the HTC Sensation as it recently acquired S-Off. Hopefully the HTC EVO 3D is up next. Rogers Canada says the HTC EVO 3D bootloader will launch unlocked.
There had been some speculation to whether Google would ever release the Nexus S officially on AT&T. It has now become official; Samsung Nexus S will debut on the AT&T network July 24 (tomorrow). Also hitting the network soon will be the HTC Puccini tablet. It just hit the FCC and will be packing 4G LTE! AT&T is having a “Free for a Year” sweepstakes going on now, so don’t forget to participate for your chance to win!
Chris Burns presented a few nice hands-on video demonstrations of both the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet and Lenovo IdeaPad K1. They look to be an excellent addition to the current Android OS tablets out there. Also reviewed this week was the Motorola Triumph for Virgin Mobile. This will definitely be the best bang for your buck when buying a smartphone off-contract for under $300.
Autodesk launched SketchBook Pro for Android Tablets this week; finally a polished application to put you’re new Android stylus to good use! Another application to hit this week may interest our more scholarly readers; IntelliVocab is an easier way to study for the SAT, GRE, and GMAT on the go. Verizon is expanding their 4G LTE to 28 new locations this week, just in time for the Droid Bionic hitting August 4th. After the Droid Bionic’s release, the Motorola Dinara may be considered Motorola’s next flagship device.
