A number of OEMs are already working double time to release Android 6.0 Marshmallow but unfortunately, not a lot of phones have been updated to Android Lollipop yet from KitKat. While some people are waiting for their “s’mores”, owners of Huawei P8 Lite have yet to receive the sweetness of Lollipop but good thing but the Chinese manufacturer is now ready to release Android 5.1.

This build available is specifically for the US P8 Lite model that was first launched with Android 4.4 KitKat inside. This may be good news for owners of the said unit because it somehow gives them hope that their phones will function even better with Lollipop.

If you own a Huawei P8 lite, you can now download and install the latest release version of Android Lollipop software. But before you do the manual upgrade, you need to prep the device first. This isn’t normal for simple software upgrades but Huawei advised that you follow some steps for ‘upgrade preparation‘. It is important that you do the following to finally make Lollipop run on the Huawei P8 lite.

First, understand that “upgrade operations will erase user data” as noted by Huawei. It is highly recommended that data are backed-up to an external SD card before flashing the build (ALE-L04V100R001C00B124). To upgrade, you also need a micro SD card with at least 4GB of free memory.

Since there are two files available, remember to install the smaller file (transfer package for KitKat to Lollipop) first to prepare the phone. Reboot device and then copy over the bigger file (main package build). After that, install the full ROM.
