New games are coming to Amazon‘s latest Android-powered set-top box and these aren’t just your run of the mill titles. Included in the list of new games for the Fire TV are three Grand Theft Auto games and the second season of The Walking Dead.
These batch of new games will really help sell the Fire TV as more than just your regular set-top TV box. While streaming content is indeed the primary purpose of the device, Amazon is also unambiguously marketing it as an Android gaming console like the OUYA. It even has its very own game controller designed for it, though it unfortunately has to be purchased separately.
The full list of news games available on Amazon’s App Store includes, as mentioned, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and The Walking Dead: Season 2. But wait, there’s more! A more cartoony port of Paradox Interactive’s Magicka title is also now available, as well as yet another zombie-themed game in the form of Zombie Tycoon 2.
Some of these titles are already available on Google Play Store, but since Amazon doesn’t use Google’s services, they’re arrival on the Fire TV is still worth noting. The Grand Theft Auto games are also compatible with the Kindle Fire tablets, so you can still buy them even if you don’t have Amazon’s set-top box just yet.
